Then I thought "maybe it's hung up from previous time I tried to launch 0.9, maybe a reboot would help." So, guess what? I rebooted and then when I clicked the beautiful Inkscape icon, now MacOS pops up a security message like "Inkscape is an app that was downloaded from the internet are you sure you want to launch it?", and I clicked "yes", and then the wonderful app loaded up and now runs just fine. inkscape fails to start on macos 10.13 (high sierra) so I finally got around to update my mac with the new os version. So, a reboot was required, which could be helpful if the install would have told me that, but, at the same time, I'm no rookie with software or computers, so I guess I should have figured out the reboot-might-solve-this cure the first time I had the issue. Inkscape has its roots in the program Gill (GNOME Illustrator. Well I had to update a few programs but it seems inkscape is the only one that does not start.
